Day 02: Reykjavik – Langjokull – Víðgelmir

This morning be prepared for a colossal adventure as we leave early from Reykjavík and catch the crisp morning air, and before you know it, we suddenly find yourself standing on top of an Ice Cap and about to begin your descent down below the surface to explore what lies beneath.

And to get there we step aboard a huge specially modified truck which was a NATO missile launcher in a previous life and drive up the glacier to the cave. The Ice Tunnel or Ice Cave is a man-made glacier cave high up in a remote area in the highlands of Iceland. Our guide will explain the formations and movements of glaciers along with how they are constantly changing as they take us on a magical journey deep within the glacier. We get to see the stunning blue glacier ice and wonderful glacier formations. The temperature inside the glacier is usually around zero degrees Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit and until very recently what lay beneath the surface of Langjökull was a mystery.

After our ice cave tour, we get back on board the glacier truck and head straight to Iceland’s mightiest lava cave, Víðgelmir. Around 5,250 feet, Víðgelmir is one of the largest lava caves in the world. Our guide will explain the features of the cave, including its colours, lava and ice formations, and stalactites and stalagmites. Our journey back to to Reykjavík, takes us on a scenic route, just perfect after our adventure-packed day. Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 3:  Reykjavik

Day is left at leisure so you can explore and enjoy Reykjavik’s delights, or you can book another tour, perhaps one in search of whales!  trip out into the bay to look for the whales. Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 4: Reykjavik – Mýrdalsjökull Glacier

And again today, is adventure-packed day adding a bit extra thrill and ticking off some of Iceland’s “must see list”. The tour offers a fun, scenic and comfortably challenging snowmobiling ride. It is a great way to explore and embrace the wilderness and get in touch with the glacier. The tour starts with a drive through the Hellisheiði mountain pass bringing you through moss covered lava fields and past geothermal springs down to farmland along the beautiful southern coastline. The first stop on the way starts with a snowmobile ride to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, close to the volcano Katla caldera. The scenery there can be quite intense, with Eyjafjallajökull glacier watching over us from the west and the breath-taking view over the South coast of Iceland.

Once you arrive at Solheimajökull the team will bring us to their base, where you will get all the necessary gear needed for snowmobiling on the glacier. After a short briefing, we ride up to the mountain with the glacier truck to the locations of the snowmobiles and the base of Mýrdalsjökull. You will have plenty of opportunity to photograph and film scenery and the beautiful landscape.

Along the return trip to Reykjavik, we will stop at the powerful 65-meter tall Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views of glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. With viewpoints both above and directly next to the waterfall, photographers will have plenty of chances to capture that unique shot.

The Seljalandsfoss waterfall is for many guests the highlight of this trip, as you can walk along and behind this waterfall offering a completely unique perspective and rain jackets are in order here, so make sure to wear one. Our coach journey back to Reykjavik will take us around and hour and a half.

to From here we will spend about 1.5hrs in the coach returning to Reykjavik. . Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)
