Day 01: Reykjavik

Arrive in Reykjavik (Keflavik Airport) and transfer to hotel (check-in 14:00hrs), rest of the day is at leisure so you can explore the city. Overnight in Reykjavik (Meals: No Meals)

Day 02: Reykjavik – Raufarhólshellir

This morning we visit the lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, just 30 minutes from Reykjavík. We will witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption while we walk in the path of lava that flowed thousands of years ago. The lava tunnel is one of the biggest in Iceland and gets up to 30 metres wide and 10 metres high. The lava tube ceiling has caved in near the entrance, which creates beautiful columns of light. The fantastic range of colours of the tunnel wall is caused by the different mineral types of the rock.

This is a tour for the senses and even some scenes from the Hollywood movie Noah were shot at this very location. Experience a new world, hear the talk of the cave and sense the forces of nature like you have never done before.

Walk around 350 metres into the lava tunnel and the temperature in the cave is around 4 degrees although it can be warmer outside and usually water leaks from the ceiling when it rains and snows so raincoats are the order of the day and highly recommended.

We return to Reykjavik and there is just enough time, to freshen up and have some dinner before we set off for our Northern Lights tour. Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 3: Reykjavik – Þingvellir National Park

Iceland is known for its big glaciers, high waterfalls and erupting geyser, so today we savour the ultimate snowmobile and Glacier Ice cave adventure and this tour enjoy all these in one day.

So, our day starts early in Reykjavik and set off to see the top attractions in Iceland. Our tour guide will make sure your experience is informative and fun at the same time. Our first stop is  Þingvellir national park where the oldest parliament in the world was founded and the tectonic plates are pulling apart every day. From Þingvellir we drive through lush lava fields and farmlands until the earth starts to tremble and steam rises from the ground at Geysir geothermal area. We have around one hour to take in the beautiful scenery at Geysir and witness Strokkur erupting few times.

We then continue to Gullfoss Waterfall, the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, where the water rushes down a narrow canyon with indescribable force, painting the air with a glittering mist. Located in the Canyon of the Hvítá River in the southwest of the country, Gullfoss is one of the most popular attractions of all Iceland. The beautiful Hvítá river rushes southward in three steps into a narrow canyon with a breath-taking roar and grandeur. Furthermore, on clear days the magnificent Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second largest glacier, can be seen in the distance. Here, we can get some refreshments and food.

And to finish off the day in grand style, we enjoy a super truck ride up to Langjökull glacier, and once we reach the glacier’s edge, we gear up and set off for an unforgettable snowmobile ride on top of the glacier, stopping at and visiting a manmade ice cave. The crystal-like glacier ice, underneath thick layers of snow, is truly a sight you will never forget.

After walking under the glacier, we ride our snowmobiles back to the warm glacier hut to be taken back to Gullfoss waterfall, where we board our coach back to Reykjavik! Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 4: Reykjavik – Sólheimajökull Glacier

This morning we visit the south-coast of Iceland and go hiking on a glacier then visit the incredible waterfalls of Skógar and Seljalandsfoss. The tour starts with a drive through the Hellisheiði mountain pass bringing us through moss covered lava fields and past geothermal springs down to farmlands along the beautiful southern coastline. First stop is the rugged Sólheimajökull Glacier, an outlet glacier that flows from main ice-cap of Mýrdalsjökull where the mighty Katla Volcano rests. We walk on the glacier, wearing special crampons on the shoes and explore the amazing cracks; crevasses, and led by a certified glacier guide.

Along the way we pass by fertile farming lands and pass by small villages seated at the bases of infamous Eyjafjallajökull & Hekla Volcanoes dwell with their all-powerful presence. On clear days you will also have a great view of the Westman Islands where the renowned volcanoes lie.

The Solheim Glacier is a magnificent and humbling site to behold, it is a glacial tongue extension of the Myrdalsjökull glacier. Once we get there, our guides will have all the necessary equipment for hiking and exploring the cracks and crevasses of the glacier, so well-booted and suited!

Along the return trip to Reykjavik, we stop at the powerful 65-meter tall Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views of glaciers, volcanoes, and black sandy beaches. With viewpoints both above and directly next to the waterfall, keen photographers will have plenty of chances to capture that unique shot. Overnight Reykjavik (Meals: Breakfast)
