Day 02: Negombo – Anuradhapura (169Kms)
After breakfast we leave for Anuradhapura, first capital of Sri Lanka and dating back the 4th century BC. Anuradhapura is a beautiful and picturesque town set on the banks of the river and home to some fascinating ancient ruins which we will explore with a sightseeing tour before we check-in at our hotel. Day 03: Anuradhapura
This morning after breakfast we set off for Kekirawa to visit the village of Aukana famous for the standing statue of the Buddha carved out of a large granite rock face and towering more than 40 feet high. Afternoon is at leisure. Overnight Anuradhapura (Meals: No Meals)rning drive to Jaipur, renowned for its blue pottery, carpet weaving and semi-precious stones. Day 04: Anuradhapura – Habarana (60.8Kms)
We set off to Habarana, a small city in the district of Anuradhapura, situated close to the ancient rock fortress and castle/palace ruin of Sigiriya. Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers and the starting point for safaris in the nearby Habarana jungle and the Minneriya sanctuary which hosts a notable population of elephants. Day 05: Habarana – Sigiriya (18.1Kms)
This morning again after breakfast drive to Sigiriya, a World Heritage Site”and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”, which is perhaps the most wonderous site on the island. Known also as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that once stood at the entrance to King Kashyapa’s ancient palace, set at the summit of the 600ft high rock. We will then take a walk through the local village passing by paddy fields before we enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by the local family. Overnight in Habarana (Meals: Breakfast & Lunch)
Day 06: Habarana – Kandy (97.6Kms)
This morning again after breakfast we head off for Kandy to visit to caves of Dambulla also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a World Heritage site, the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. We continue our journey to Kandy. Overnight in Kandy (Meals: Breakfast)
Day 07: Kandy
The hill capital and another World Heritage Site, and as Sri Lanka is well known for spices and for Buddhist all around the world, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites and home of the “Dalada Maligawa” – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. After our day’s sightseeing and in late afternoon we can enjoy a Kandyan dance program and a chance to meet the dancers learn all about the traditional Sinhalese dancing. Day 08: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
Today we are off to the railway station to board the train for Nanu oya (4hrs approx.) where upon arrival we will be met by our guide ad continue our journey. Nuwara Eliya Is one of the most Important locations for Tea cultivation and well known for its cool climate being the coolest area in Sri Lanka. And in the evening, we visit a working tea factory to learn how a bud and 2 leaves from the tea plant end up in your cup! Overnight Nuwara Eliya (Meals: Breakfast)
Day 09: Nuwara Eliya
We have an early start today as we set off for the hill country and the Horton Plains National Park for an adventurous trek. Horton plains national park in ‘Ohiya’ is the highest plateau on the island and a real paradise for nature lovers, hikers and bird watching. This plateau is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. An early morning visit is essential, both to see the wild life but also to admire the views of the “World’s End”, a sheer cliff, with a drop of about 4,000 feet, before mist closes in during the latter part of the morning. Day 10: Nuwara Eliya – Tissamaharama (143Kms)
We continue after breakfast for Tissamaharama and the rest of this morning is at leisure. Afternoon jeep safari of Yala National Wildlife Sanctuary and watch the animals roaming freely in their natural habitat. After breakfast drive off to Bentota via Galle, where we visit Galle fort a UNESCO World heritage site, first built in 1588 by the Portuguese and subsequently fortified by the Dutch during the 17th Century. Rest of the day is at leisure in Bentota. Overnight in Bentota (Meals: Breakfast)
Day 13 & 14: Bentota at Leisure
Bentota is a coastal town in Sri Lanka, located in the Galle District of the Southern Province. Bentota is a tourist attraction, with a local airport (Bentota River Airport) and boasts a handful of world-class hotels. It is a destination for water sports and famous for its toddy production, an alcoholic beverage made of coconut nectar. It also has a turtle hatchery, located on Induruwa beach. Overnight in Bentota (Meals: Breakfast)
