Skiathos is considered the most cosmopolitan of the Sporades islands, and it is famed for its rare natural beauty. Just under 13kms long and 6kms wide, it boasts some of the finest beaches in the Eastern Mediterranean, together with scented pine clad hills and olive groves. In the Italian influenced Skiathos Town, you will discover delightful narrow streets crammed with traditional tavernas, meanwhile the pretty harbour with its lively atmosphere, luxury yachts, stylish boutiques, elegant restaurants and colourful nightlife, is the ideal place to people-watch. Skiathos is a sun worshippers’ paradise, thanks to the excellent selection of sandy bays. The best ones fringe the island’s southern coast, and can be reached by local buses and boats that depart from town every morning. One of the most popular and celebrated of Skiathos’ beaches is Koukounaries, a stunning horseshoe shaped expanse of sand backed by tall pine trees and a lake, about 30 minutes drive from Skiathos Town.
