Day 1: Colombo – Nogombo

Arrive in Colombo and transfer to hotel in Negombo (38Kms) day at leisure. Overnight Negombo (Meals: No Meals)

Day 2: Negombo – Habarana (149.5Kms)

After breakfast we leave for Habarana and en-route we visit the caves of Dambulla. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight Habarana (Meals: No Meals)

Day 3: Habarana Polonnaruwa (46Kms)

This morning after breakfast we set off for Polonnaruwa, an ancient city and a worthy showcase of the great ancient Sri Lankan architecture dating back to 12th Century AD, with its many Buddhist monasteries and monuments built by King Parakramabahu 1. Many well-preserved sites are scattered around this ancient city, notable is the Gal Viharaya which boasts huge stone monoliths of the lord Buddha, in a sitting, standing and reclining positions as well as the Thupaaramaya Image house. We will journey through a local village, passing paddy fields appreciating the simplicity of local life, and we will enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by a local family before returning to Habarana. Day 4: Habarana – Sigiriya – Kandy (94.1Kms)

This morning again after breakfast drive to Sigiriya, a World Heritage Site “and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”, which is perhaps the most wonderous site on the island. Known also as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that once stood at the entrance to King Kashyapa’s ancient palace, set at the summit of the 600ft high rock. We continue to Kandy and rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight Kandy (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 5: Kandy

The hill capital and another World Heritage Site, and as Sri Lanka is well known for spices and for Buddhist all around the world, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites and home of the “Dalada Maligawa” – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. We stroll through the Peradeniya royal botanical Gardens which are surrounded by the Mahaweli river, Sri Lanka’s longest river which completes an ambience of peace and tranquility. The Orchid House takes centre stage as it showcases more than 300 varieties of orchids, and the spice garden introduces various trees and plants used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Late afternoon we can enjoy a cultural show complete with traditional dances and fire walking. Overnight in Kandy (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 6: Kandy – Ella

After breakfast, we are off to Peradeniya railway station to board our train for Ella and the journey takes around 5 hours. Ella is an extraordinary place of natural beauty and spectacular scenery and of course, entwined in the Indian epic Ramayana, the love triangle story of Sita, Rama and Ravana. The imposing backdrop of Ella Rock, endless green hills, waterfalls, the Ravana falls which are very popular, are only some of the remarkable natural beauty spots of this area. On arrival in Ella we transfer to the hotel and rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Ella (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 7: Ella

After breakfast we are ready for a morning climb up Ella Rock and we then visit Ravana Caves, the architectural brilliance of king Ravana. The formation of the tunnels indicates that they are man-made and served as are quick passageway through the hills. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Ella (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 8: Ella – Udawalawe (94.2Kms)

This morning after breakfast we are off to Udawalawe where we’ll enjoy an afternoon jeep safari around the national park. Undawalawe was declared a National Park in 1972 and covers an area of 230,821 hectacres. The park is home to a variety of animals including elephants, wild buffalo, sambhur, spotted deer, baking deer mongoose, crocodile and many species of reptiles. Overnight in Undwalawe (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 9: Udawalawe – Bentota (190.9Kms)

After breakfast we continue our journey to Bentota for a well-deserved beach break. En route we visit Ath Athuru Sevana, the “Elephant Transit Home”, a project dedicated to caring for orphaned and abandoned baby elephants, who are looked after until strong enough to be released back to the wild. Later this afternoon we drive off to Bentota via Galle, where we visit Galle fort a UNESCO World heritage site, first built in 1588 by the Portuguese and subsequently fortified by the Dutch during the 17th Century. Arriving in Bentota and evening is left at leisure. Overnight in Bentota (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 10: Bentota

Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the beach. Overnight in Bentota (Meals: Breakfast)

Day 11:Departure Bentota/Colombo (2hrs drive approx.)

Transfer to airport for onward flight.
